Advisory Board
Dennis Turcotte
Mr. Turcotte is currently President and CEO of North Channel Management, a private
business consulting and investment firm. He is also a member of the Advisory Board
of the Brookfield Special Situations Funds and a Director of Coalspur Mines Ltd,
a coal exploration and development company. He also serves on the Board of Directors
of Domatar Corporation, a pulp and paper products company. Mr. Turcotte has held
a number of senior executive positions with companies in the pulp and paper industry
including President of the Paper Group and Executive Vice President of Corporate
Development and Strategy of Tembec Inc., a leading integrated forest products company.
Mr. Turcotte was also the President and CEO and Algoma Steel Inc. He was named Canadian
Business Magazine's Top CEO for 2006. He holds an MBA an is a licensed Professional
Engineer.
Adriaan van Heiningen, Ph.D.
Dr. Adriaan van Heiningen has over 25 years experience in researching and teaching
the fundamental chemical engineering aspects of forest biomass conversion processes.
His current research efforts are focused on the production of polymers and biofuels
from Integrated Forest Products Refineries. Dr. van Heiningen is a Professor in
the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Maine
and a Finnish Distinguished Professor in the Department of Forests Products Technology
at the Helsinki University of Technology in Finland. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemical
Engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
Dave Austgen, Ph.D
Dr. Dave Austgen is currently the Chief Development Officer of Luca Technologies,
Inc., a clean energy company that uses biotechnology to create and sustainably produce
natural gas. He is the former Biofuels Senior Business and Joint Venture Manager
for Shell’s Alternative Energy Business. Dr. Austgen has served on the boards of
HERA Hydrogen Storage Systems and Icelandic New Energy. He also served on the Advisory
Committees of Cool Planet Biofuels and the Department of Chemical Engineering at
the University of Texas. Dr. Austgen received a Masters of Business Administration
and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
Basil Karampelas
Basil Karampelas has over twenty years experience in venture capital, private equity
investing and merger and acquisitions advisement. Mr. Karampelas has held various
executive roles including Vice President of Corporate Development at Enron, Head
of Energy Financial Services for BP Oil Americas, CFO of Green River Biodiesel,
and Vice Chairman of Heliosphera. He obtained a Masters of Business Administration
from Stanford Graduate School of Business where he was named an Arjay Miller Scholar.
